My conceal carry….camera

As a
professional photographer, you get so used to shooting for others that you have
a tendency to forget about shooting personal photos just for yourself and the
joy of the experience.

It became a habit to pull out my professional cameras and lens and all the accessories in a
cumbersome and labored pursuit of personal photographs. I also became aware
that people responded differently when they saw me with professional cameras.

A photographer friend of mine John Partipilo whose work I’ve long admired introduced me to his
daily carry camera. A small form Fujifilm 100V that is reminiscent of an old-school
range finder Leica.  Its straightforward operation
is intuitive and the fixed 35mm equivalent lens forced me to capture this field
of view. I’ve also been very happy with the image quality.

So now I have a small camera that I carry every day to feed my creativity. Most importantly I
do this for personal expression and occasionally I share the images but just as
likely to keep them to myself.

Just because no one sees what you do does not diminish you as an artist. Photographer Vivian Maier photographed all of her adult life. She never showed
her work and often the film was never developed.  Yet she was discovered after death for her incredible
vision of daily life.  Check her out at https://www.vivianmaier.com/
